Fishing trip FAQs

FAQs

Questions we often get asked

Here are the questions people ask us most. If yours is not here, call or text Daniel on +353 87 350 0843 and he will be glad to help.

Do I need any fishing experience?

No. Many of our guests have never fished before. We give free tuition on every trip and help you with every step, from baiting up to landing your fish.

Can children come on the trips?

Yes, children are very welcome. Our family trip is the best choice for younger children. There are lifejackets on board for adults and children. Children need to be with a parent or guardian.

Do I need to bring my own rod?

No. Rods, reels and tackle are available to hire. If you have your own gear, you are welcome to bring it.

Where do the trips leave from?

All our trips leave from Cahersiveen Pier in Co. Kerry. When you book, we will tell you exactly where to meet. Our getting here page has directions.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Your safety comes first. If the wind or the sea is not safe for fishing, we will contact you before the trip and arrange another day.

What should I wear?

Dress for the weather and then add a layer. It is always cooler on the water than on land. A waterproof jacket and shoes or boots with a good grip are a must. On sunny days, bring sun cream and a hat.

Will I get seasick?

Most people are fine, especially in the sheltered water around Valentia. If you know you get seasick, you could consider taking medication for it. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice first. A light breakfast, fresh air and keeping your eyes on the horizon can also help.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes, within reason. We will fillet your catch for you to take home. Undersized fish and protected species always go back, and we ask everyone to keep only what they will eat.

Should I bring food and drink?

Yes. Bring snacks and drinks for the half-day and family trips, and a packed lunch for the full day. Being at sea gives most people an appetite.

How many people can come?

It depends on the trip. Call or text Daniel and he will tell you what is possible for your group. You can also book the whole boat for a private charter.

How much does a trip cost?

We charge per person and prices depend on the trip. Call or text Daniel on +353 87 350 0843 for current rates. If you want the boat to yourselves, ask about a private charter.

Can we see the Skelligs?

On a calm day our longer trips can head out towards the Skelligs, and we fish in the deep water around them. We do not land on Skellig Michael. Landings are run by specially licensed boats. Read more on our Skellig Islands page.

How do I book?
